Cedar Hills to CecilRodent Control on Jacksonville's Westside
The Westside covers a lot of ground, from 1950s neighborhoods near Normandy Boulevard to newer subdivisions in Argyle Forest and the warehouse corridors near Cecil.
Duval County, west of downtown and the Ortega River. Cedar Hills, Argyle Forest, Normandy and Blanding boulevards, 103rd Street and the Cecil Commerce Center area.
Older neighborhoods
Cedar Hills, Hyde Park and the neighborhoods around Normandy Boulevard and 103rd Street were mostly built from the 1950s through the 1970s. They are block ranch homes on slabs, many with carports or converted garages, set among pines and oaks. Mice come in through weep holes, garage gaps and plumbing penetrations. Roof rats come from the trees.
Strip centers along Blanding Boulevard, 103rd Street and Normandy Boulevard have restaurants and shared dumpsters, and rats from behind those buildings spread into nearby yards.

If you rent a house on the Westside, read your lease to see who handles pest control. Florida's extermination duty in Statute 83.51(2)(a) doesn't automatically apply to single-family homes and duplexes, but the landlord still has to maintain the roof, exterior walls and foundation, which is where most rodent entries are. Report activity in writing. If you rent an apartment on the Westside, the landlord usually handles rodents under 83.51. The tenant and landlord guide explains the details.
Argyle Forest and Cecil
Further southwest, Argyle Forest and the newer subdivisions near Oakleaf on the Clay County line are built around ponds, pine woods and wetlands. New homes on the edge of woods see roof rats and field rodents, especially as nearby land is cleared.
The Cecil area, on the former naval air station, is now full of distribution centers and industrial buildings, along with rail lines and big open fields. Rodents from those edges move into nearby homes and businesses. Warehouse rodent control covers those sites.

Westside rodent questions
Why do 1960s Westside homes get mice?
Block homes from that era often have open weep holes, aging garage doors and old line penetrations, all of which leave small gaps.
Does land clearing near me matter?
Yes. Clearing woods for new subdivisions or warehouses pushes rodents into the nearest buildings.
Is the Westside covered by 630-CITY?
Yes. The Westside is in the consolidated City of Jacksonville, so 630-CITY handles code complaints.
